ADU Garage Conversion Design

The owner of this house wanted a smaller unit to live in and rent out the 3 bedroom house. This garage conversion will allow her to stay in the house, look out over the existing house and age gracefully in place with her great location near shopping and banking.

The owner began with the ADU externally located to the rear of the garage, but some code rules dictated that it would be less expensive to build this as a garage conversion, which in this community is allowed.

The beauty of a garage conversion is the reuse of existing wall and roof. All the utilities are in place and close by. The small size allowed us to keep some portion of the existing garage as storage as well as the area above the ADU in the “attic” space of the garage. A great project, reasonable budget and satisfied owner is the outcome you can expect when you use an experienced ADU architect.
